Accra, Ghana – The Confederation of African Pickleball (CAP) is thrilled to announce the results of its recent elections, held on January 30, 2025. Delegates from 19 eligible countries voted to elect the leaders who will steer the growth and development of pickleball in Africa for the next 4 years. This election is part of the ongoing enhancement of the governance and organization structures of CAP since its inception in August 2023.New elected officials are as follows:
- Vice President: Kartik Kapoor (Tanzania)
- Director of Finance: Kalisa Salomon (Rwanda)
- Director of Sports Development: Regina Nakibuule (Uganda)
- East Africa Regional Director: Brian Omwando (Kenya)
- West Africa Regional Director: Barnaby Ephraim (Nigeria)
- North Africa Regional Director: Younes Choukri (Morocco)
- Southern Africa Regional Director: Michelle Kriese (South Africa)
- Central Africa Regional Director: Tonfak Roger (Cameroon)
The CAP serves as the African continental federation for the Global Pickleball Federation, the world governing body for pickleball. These newly elected leaders together with the existing officials, Dr. Kwabena Akufo (Ghana) as President, Captain Collins Munene (Kenya) as Secretary General, and Babatunde Epoyun (Nigeria) as Director of Tournaments and Events will constitute the Management Team as specified in the CAP Constitution.
The Confederation has expressed its confidence in the new leadership team, emphasizing their commitment to advancing pickleball’s growth, popularity and accessibility. “These leaders represent the diversity and talent of our continent. Their expertise, passion, and dedication will be instrumental in achieving our vision of Pickleball for the People,” said Dr Kwabena Akufo, President of the Confederation. The Management Team will run the day-to-day affairs of the confederation. The next phase of the governance and organizational enhancements include the formation of committees to support the work of these officials.
With the election of these officials the Board of Directors of CAP now consists of Dr. Kwabena Akufo as President and Chairman of the Board, Kartik Kapoor as Vice President, Captain Collins Munene as Secretary General, Babatunde Epoyun as Director Tournaments and Events, Kalisa Salomon as Director of Finance, Regina Nakibuule as Director of Sports Development, and five more people worldwide who will be elected in the next AGM of CAP.
Pickleball has seen a surge in popularity across Africa in recent years. The Confederation of African Pickleball has been at the forefront with initiatives to introduce the sport to new audiences.
The newly elected officials will work closely with national associations, regional bodies, the Global Pickleball Federation, and various business partners to strengthen the sport’s infrastructure, develop talent, and create opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels.
